Nigeria Launches Its National Single Window (NSW): A New Era for Trade

The new NSW platform aims to simplify import and export processes, reduce delays, and improve overall trade efficiency.

The National Single Window (NSW) is a new digital platform created by the Federal Government of Nigeria. It brings all the major trade-related agencies into one online place, so importers, exporters, and government officials can manage trade processes faster and more easily.

Think of it as a single doorway for all trade activities. No more running from one office to another.

Who Is It For?

The NSW is designed for everyone involved in cross‑border trade, including:

  • Importers
  • Exporters
  • Customs brokers
  • Shipping companies
  • Logistics providers
  • Government agencies responsible for permits, approvals, and checks

Why Was It Created?

Nigeria’s previous trade processes came with several challenges. Many steps took a long time, relied heavily on paper documents, were costly for businesses, and made it difficult to follow the progress of applications. There were also repeated checks and forms across different agencies, which added to delays and complexity.

These challenges caused revenue losses, long delays, and low rankings in ease of trade.

To fix this, the President initiated the project of the National Single Window on 16 April 2024.

The goal is to:

  • Simplify trade
  • Reduce costs
  • Increase transparency
  • Modernize borders
  • Boost government revenue
  • Strengthen national security

Development & Current Status

The project is being implemented in phases to ensure a smooth transition of the nation's trade architecture.

Phase 1 Launch: The first phase was officially rolled out on 27th March 2026.  It includes the following functionality:

  • Licences, Certificates and Permits (LCPO). Application Submissions, Imports
  • Manifests Submission (Air Cargo & Sea)
  • Centralised Risk Management for Regulatory Agencies such as SON, NAFDAC, NESREA & NAQS.
  • Payments for LCPO.

Phase 2: Is announced for Q2-Q3 2026.

Phase 3: Is announced for Q1 2027.

How to Use the NSW

Using the platform is simple:

Step 1: Register on the NSW website

  • Sign up as an Importer or Importer/Exporter.
  • This is especially important for anyone using SONCAP services — you must register first before you can continue with any application.

Once registered:

  • Log in to your account
  • Submit trade documents online (import, export, permits, certificates)
  • The system automatically sends your information to the right agencies
  • You can track your applications and cargo in real time
  • Receive updates, approvals, and payments all in one place
